FRANTOI APERTI
The 27th edition of ‘Frantoi Aperti in Umbria‘ is ready to roll from 19 October to 17 November 2024.
Yes, folks, it’s that time of year again—the king of Italian oil tourism is back, here to herald the arrival of the new extra virgin olive oil. We’re talking fresh, golden goodness right after the olives get their big squeeze. Expect fun-filled activities at the oil mills this season, all dedicated to quality oil, of course!
Brace yourselves, because in this edition, various Umbrian villages are opening up their mills for you. Yep, you’ll get to see those ancient machines churning out the new oil, and you’ll be smack dab in the middle of hubs that are not just traditional but also modern. They love a good makeover, but don’t worry, their heart’s still in the right place. Plus, during Frantoi Aperti, they crank up their hospitality game to an all-time high. Trust us, you’ll see!
The opening event kicks off on October 19 with the 2nd edition of ‘La Grande Pedalata’, a bike ride that’s not just fun but also a history lesson on wheels. It’s a 40 km (yep, you read that right) ring-route along the Assisi-Spleto olive grove and the UNESCO serial site ‘The Lombards in Italy’. Think of it as a scenic trip with some leg workouts, brought to you by Strada dell’Olio e.v.o., DOP Umbria, and their trusty sidekick, You Mobility—Il Portale della Mobilità. The FIAB Umbria, FIAB Foligno, and Ciclostorica La Francescana folks are joining in too because, well, the more, the merrier!
Starting from the Cathedral of Spoleto, this bike escapade will lead you through cultural wonders of Spoleto and Campello sul Clitunno, specifically those from the UNESCO serial site ‘The Lombards in Italy: places of power’ (yes, that’s 568-774 AD). Picture this: nature, cycling, wine and dine, art appreciation, and olive oil haven—all wrapped into one heck of a ride! These places aren’t just about the oil anymore; they’re now fabulous hotspots for events and tastings. Oil-tourism is a real thing, folks!
Oh, and the minimum age to join the ride is 16. If you’re under 18, make sure to bring an adult along. We can’t have you wandering off alone!
